Joint Tactical Radio System
The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) is a program developed by the U.S. Department of Defense to create a family of software-defined radios. These radios are designed to improve communication among military forces by enabling secure, reliable, and interoperable voice and data transmission across different platforms and services.
JTRS aims to replace older radio systems with modern technology that can adapt to various communication needs. By using a common architecture, it allows for easier upgrades and integration with other systems, enhancing operational effectiveness in joint missions involving multiple branches of the military, such as the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
