John Russwurm was an important figure in American history, known for being one of the first African American college graduates. He graduated from Columbia University in 1826 and later became a prominent advocate for the rights of African Americans. In 1827, Russwurm co-founded the first African American newspaper, called Freedom's Journal. This publication aimed to address issues affecting the African American community and promote social justice. Through his work, Russwurm played a significant role in the early fight for civil rights in the United States.
