John Milledge
John Milledge was an American politician and a prominent figure in the early history of the state of Georgia. Born in 1757, he served as a member of the Continental Congress and was a strong supporter of American independence during the American Revolution. Milledge also played a significant role in the establishment of the University of Georgia, which is the first state-chartered university in the United States.
In 1802, Milledge became the 24th governor of Georgia, serving until 1806. His tenure focused on issues such as land distribution and education. After his governorship, he continued to be involved in public service and local affairs, contributing to the development of the state until his death in 1818.
