John Jay's Treaty
John Jay's Treaty was an agreement signed in 1794 between the United States and Great Britain. It aimed to resolve issues remaining after the American Revolutionary War, such as trade disputes and the presence of British troops in the Northwest Territory. The treaty sought to improve relations and prevent potential conflicts between the two nations.
The treaty was negotiated by John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States, and it included provisions for the withdrawal of British forces from American soil and the establishment of a commission to resolve outstanding financial claims. Although it was controversial and faced opposition, it ultimately helped stabilize U.S.-British relations.
