John Gillespie Magee was a Canadian pilot and poet, best known for his poem "High Flight." Born on June 9, 1922, in Shanghai, China, he moved to Canada with his family. Magee joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served as a fighter pilot. Tragically, Magee died in a flying accident on December 11, 1941, at the young age of 19.
