John Gillespie Magee
John Gillespie Magee was a Canadian pilot and poet, best known for his poem "High Flight." Born on June 9, 1922, in Shanghai, China, he moved to Canada with his family. Magee joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served as a fighter pilot.
Tragically, Magee died in a flying accident on December 11, 1941, at the young age of 19. His poem "High Flight," which celebrates the joy of flying, has become an enduring tribute to aviators and is often recited at memorials and ceremonies honoring pilots.
