John André
John André was a British Army officer and spy during the American Revolutionary War. Born in 1750 in London, he became known for his intelligence work and was involved in several military operations. André played a significant role in the British efforts to gain control over the American colonies.
He is most famously associated with the betrayal of American General Benedict Arnold, who conspired to surrender the fort at West Point. André was captured by American forces in 1780 and, after a trial, was executed for espionage. His death highlighted the dangers of espionage during the war.
