Johann Heinrich Füssli
Johann Heinrich Füssli, also known as Henry Fuseli, was a Swiss painter, draughtsman, and writer born in 1741. He is best known for his dramatic and imaginative works, often featuring themes of the supernatural and the romantic. Füssli's style combined elements of Romanticism and Neoclassicism, making him a significant figure in the art world of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Füssli moved to England in 1764, where he gained recognition and became a member of the Royal Academy. His most famous painting, "The Nightmare," depicts a woman in a deep sleep with a demonic figure looming over her. Füssli's influence extended beyond painting, as he also wrote about art theory and contributed to the understanding of Romantic art.
