Jewish Combat Organization
The Jewish Combat Organization (JCO), known in Polish as Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa, was a Jewish resistance group formed in 1942 in the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. Its primary goal was to fight against the Nazi regime and protect the Jewish community from deportation to extermination camps. The JCO played a significant role in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of April 1943, where they organized armed resistance against the German forces.
The organization was composed of members from various Jewish political groups, including the Bund and Zionist factions. Despite being heavily outnumbered and outgunned, the JCO's courageous efforts symbolized Jewish resistance and resilience in the face of oppression. Their actions inspired other resistance movements and highlighted the struggle for dignity and survival during the Holocaust.
