Jeremiah 35
In Jeremiah 35, the prophet Jeremiah is instructed by God to visit the Rechabites, a nomadic group known for their strict adherence to a lifestyle of abstaining from wine and living in tents. Jeremiah brings them into the temple and offers them wine to drink, but they refuse, citing their ancestor Jonadab's command to avoid wine and live simply.
God uses the Rechabites' obedience as a lesson for the people of Judah. He contrasts their faithfulness to their ancestor's commands with Judah's disobedience to His own laws. This chapter emphasizes the importance of following God's instructions and the consequences of ignoring them.
