Jean-François de Galaup, comte de La Pérouse
Jean-François de Galaup, comte de La Pérouse, was a French naval officer and explorer born in 1741. He is best known for leading an expedition around the world from 1785 to 1788, which aimed to explore the Pacific Ocean and establish trade routes. His journey was significant for mapping uncharted territories and gathering scientific information.
La Pérouse's expedition included two ships, the Astrolabe and the Boussole, and visited various locations, including Australia and California. Unfortunately, the expedition ended tragically when La Pérouse and his crew disappeared near the Solomon Islands in 1788, leaving behind a legacy of exploration and discovery.
