Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier
Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier was a French navigator and explorer born in 1705. He is best known for his expeditions to the southern seas, particularly his discovery of Bouvet Island in 1739. This uninhabited island, located in the South Atlantic Ocean, was named in his honor and is now a territory of Norway.
Bouvet de Lozier's explorations contributed to the mapping of the southern hemisphere and increased European knowledge of the region. His voyages were part of the broader age of exploration, which included other notable figures like James Cook and Ferdinand Magellan. Bouvet de Lozier passed away in 1786.
