Jarrow Crusaders
The Jarrow Crusaders were a group of workers from the town of Jarrow in northeast England who organized a march to London in 1936. They aimed to protest against high unemployment and poor living conditions during the Great Depression. The march covered over 250 miles and highlighted the struggles faced by the working class in Britain.
The marchers, led by Paddy O'Connor, carried a banner that read "Jarrow Marches on London." Their journey gained significant media attention and public support, bringing awareness to the economic hardships of the time. The Jarrow Crusaders became a symbol of working-class resilience and the fight for social justice.
