Japanese flying squirrel
The Japanese flying squirrel is a small, nocturnal rodent native to Japan. It has a soft, grayish-brown fur and large, round eyes that help it see in the dark. This species is known for its ability to glide between trees, thanks to a membrane of skin that stretches from its wrists to its ankles.
These squirrels primarily inhabit forests, where they feed on fruits, nuts, and tree bark. They are social animals, often living in small groups. The Japanese flying squirrel plays an important role in its ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal, which helps maintain forest health.
