Japanese Sumo
Japanese Sumo is a traditional form of wrestling that originated in Japan over a thousand years ago. It is characterized by its unique rituals, including the use of salt for purification and the ceremonial ring called a dohyo. Wrestlers, known as rikishi, compete to force their opponent out of the ring or to make any part of their body other than the soles of their feet touch the ground.
Sumo matches are held in tournaments called basho, which take place several times a year. Each rikishi is ranked based on their performance, and the highest rank is yokozuna. The sport emphasizes not only physical strength but also technique, strategy, and respect for tradition.
