Japanese Heraldry
Japanese heraldry, known as Kamon, is a system of symbols used to represent families, clans, and individuals in Japan. These emblems often feature stylized designs of plants, animals, or geometric shapes, and they serve as a means of identification, much like coats of arms in Western cultures. Each Kamon is unique and can convey information about lineage and status.
Historically, Kamon were used by samurai and noble families during the Edo period (1603-1868) to signify their heritage and achievements. Today, these symbols are still relevant in various cultural contexts, appearing on family crests, clothing, and traditional ceremonies, preserving the rich history of Japanese identity.
