Jamestown Rediscovery Project
The Jamestown Rediscovery Project is an archaeological initiative focused on the site of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America, established in 1607. Launched in 1994, the project aims to uncover artifacts and structures that provide insights into the lives of early settlers and their interactions with the indigenous Powhatan people.
Through excavations, researchers have discovered significant items, including colonial buildings, tools, and personal belongings, which help to reconstruct the history of the settlement. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the challenges faced by the settlers and the impact of their presence on the Virginia region.
