James Jamerson
James Jamerson was an influential American bassist, best known for his work with the Funk Brothers, the studio band for Motown Records. He played on numerous hit songs during the 1960s and 1970s, contributing to the distinctive sound of Motown music. His innovative playing style and use of complex bass lines helped shape the genre and influenced many musicians.
Born on January 29, 1936, in South Carolina, Jamerson moved to Detroit in the 1950s, where he began his career as a session musician. He played on classics like Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and The Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love." Despite his significant contributions, he remained largely uncredited during his lifetime.
