James Brydges
James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos (1674-1744), was an English nobleman and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament and held various governmental positions, including the role of Paymaster of the Forces. Brydges was known for his significant contributions to the development of the Chandos estate in Buckinghamshire, where he built the grand Chandos House.
In addition to his political career, Brydges was a patron of the arts and played a key role in the cultural life of his time. He was associated with notable figures such as the composer George Frideric Handel, who performed at his estate. Brydges' legacy includes his influence on both politics and the arts in 18th-century England.
