Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet
Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet was a French bishop and theologian born in 1627. He is best known for his eloquent sermons and writings that defended the divine right of kings, a political doctrine that asserted that monarchs derive their authority directly from God. His most famous work, Politics Drawn from the Very Words of Holy Scripture, outlines his views on governance and the role of rulers.
Bossuet was also a prominent figure in the French Catholic Church and served as a tutor to the future King Louis XIV. His influence extended beyond religion into politics and philosophy, making him a key figure in the intellectual landscape of 17th-century France. He passed away in 1704.
