The Jackass Penguin, also known as the African Penguin, is a flightless bird native to the southwestern coast of Africa. It is easily recognized by its distinctive black and white coloring and the unique braying call that resembles a donkey, which is how it got its nickname. These penguins typically stand about 24 inches tall and weigh between 5 to 11 pounds.
Jackass Penguins primarily feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans, diving into the ocean to catch their prey. They are social animals, often found in large colonies on rocky shores and islands. Unfortunately, their populations are declining due to habitat loss, oil spills, and overfishing, making them a species of concern for conservation efforts.
