Jack-O'-Lanterns
A Jack-O'-Lantern is a carved pumpkin, traditionally associated with the celebration of Halloween. People hollow out pumpkins, cutting out shapes and faces on the outer skin, and then place a candle or light inside to illuminate the design. This practice originated from an Irish myth about a man named Stingy Jack who tricked the devil and was doomed to wander the earth with only a carved turnip for light.
The custom of making Jack-O'-Lanterns has evolved over time, with pumpkins becoming the preferred choice due to their size and availability in North America. Today, they are often displayed on porches and in windows, serving as festive decorations during the Halloween season.
