Ivy Mike
"Ivy Mike" was the code name for the first successful test of a thermonuclear bomb, conducted by the United States on November 1, 1952. This test took place on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands and was part of the Operation Ivy series. The bomb detonated with a yield of 10.4 megatons, significantly more powerful than earlier atomic bombs.
The test demonstrated the feasibility of hydrogen bombs, which use nuclear fusion to release energy. "Ivy Mike" marked a pivotal moment in the Cold War arms race, showcasing advancements in nuclear technology and prompting other nations to pursue similar capabilities.
