Italo Svevo
Italo Svevo was an Italian writer born on December 19, 1861, in Trieste, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His real name was Aron Hector Schmitz, and he is best known for his novel Zeno's Conscience, published in 1923. Svevo's work often explores themes of identity, self-deception, and the complexities of modern life.
Despite being relatively unknown during his lifetime, Svevo gained recognition later, particularly through the influence of the writer James Joyce, who admired his work. Svevo's unique narrative style and psychological depth have made him an important figure in 20th-century literature. He passed away on September 13, 1928.
