Italian National Health Service
The Italian National Health Service, known as Servizio Sanitario Nazionale (SSN), is the publicly funded healthcare system in Italy. Established in 1978, it provides universal coverage to all residents, ensuring access to essential medical services, including hospital care, outpatient services, and preventive care.
The SSN is funded primarily through taxation and is organized at national, regional, and local levels. Each of Italy's 20 regions manages its own healthcare services, allowing for some variation in the quality and availability of care. Overall, the system aims to promote health equity and improve the well-being of the population.
