Itaipú Dam
The Itaipú Dam is a large hydroelectric dam located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Completed in 1984, it is one of the largest power-generating facilities in the world, producing around 14,000 megawatts of electricity. The dam plays a crucial role in supplying energy to both countries, significantly contributing to their energy needs.
Constructed on the Paraná River, the Itaipú Dam spans approximately 7,919 meters in length and 196 meters in height. It features 20 generating units, each capable of producing 700 megawatts. The dam is also known for its environmental initiatives, including efforts to preserve local wildlife and promote sustainable development in the region.
