Isoodon obesulus
Isoodon obesulus, commonly known as the southern brown bandicoot, is a small marsupial native to Australia and Tasmania. It has a compact body, pointed snout, and coarse fur, typically brown or grey with lighter underparts. This nocturnal animal primarily inhabits forests, heathlands, and grasslands, where it forages for insects, worms, and plant material.
The southern brown bandicoot is about 30 to 40 centimeters long, with a tail that adds an additional 10 to 15 centimeters. It plays a crucial role in its ecosystem by helping to aerate the soil and control insect populations. Conservation efforts are in place due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species like cats and foxes.
