Ischemia
Ischemia is a medical condition that occurs when there is a reduced blood flow to a part of the body, often leading to a shortage of oxygen and nutrients. This can happen due to blockages in blood vessels, such as those caused by atherosclerosis or blood clots. Ischemia can affect various organs, including the heart, brain, and limbs, and can result in pain or dysfunction.
When ischemia affects the heart, it is known as myocardial ischemia, which can lead to chest pain or even a heart attack. In the brain, it can cause a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke. Timely medical intervention is crucial to restore blood flow and prevent permanent damage.
