Isabella Dam
The Isabella Dam is a significant earthfill dam located on the Kern River in California. Completed in 1953, it was built primarily for flood control, irrigation, and water conservation. The dam creates the Isabella Lake, which serves as a recreational area for fishing, boating, and camping.
The dam stands approximately 165 feet tall and stretches about 1,300 feet in length. It plays a crucial role in managing water resources in the region, especially during periods of drought. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oversees its operation and maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency.
