Iriomote cat
The Iriomote cat is a small wild cat native to Iriomote Island in Japan. It is a critically endangered species, with an estimated population of around 250 individuals. This cat is known for its dark fur, spotted coat, and distinctive facial markings, which help it blend into its forest habitat.
Iriomote cats primarily hunt small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They are nocturnal and solitary animals, spending most of their time in dense vegetation. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their habitat and increase their population, as they face threats from habitat loss and road accidents.
