Intrathecal Therapy
Intrathecal Therapy is a medical treatment that delivers medication directly into the spinal fluid surrounding the spinal cord. This method allows for higher concentrations of medication to reach the central nervous system, which can be more effective for certain conditions compared to oral or intravenous routes.
This therapy is often used to manage chronic pain, spasticity, or certain types of cancer. A small device, called an intrathecal pump, is usually implanted under the skin to continuously release the medication, providing long-term relief while minimizing side effects associated with higher doses of oral medications.
