Intradermal Tests
Intradermal tests are a type of allergy test used to identify specific allergens that may cause reactions in individuals. During this procedure, a small amount of allergen is injected just beneath the skin's surface, usually on the forearm. The area is then monitored for any signs of an allergic reaction, such as redness or swelling, which typically occurs within 15 to 20 minutes.
These tests are often used when skin prick tests are inconclusive or when testing for certain allergens, like venom from insect stings or specific medications. Intradermal tests are generally safe but may carry a slight risk of more severe reactions, so they should be conducted by trained professionals.
