Intestinal Structures
The intestines are part of the digestive system and are divided into two main sections: the small intestine and the large intestine. The small intestine is further divided into three parts: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. It is responsible for nutrient absorption, while the large intestine absorbs water and forms waste.
The inner lining of the intestines contains tiny finger-like projections called villi, which increase the surface area for absorption. The large intestine features structures like haustra, which are pouches that help in the movement and storage of waste. Together, these structures play a crucial role in digestion and waste management.
