International System of Units (SI)
The International System of Units (SI) is a standardized system of measurement used globally in science, industry, and everyday life. It is based on seven base units, including the meter for length, kilogram for mass, and second for time. These units provide a consistent framework for measuring and comparing physical quantities.
SI also includes derived units, which are combinations of base units, such as the newton for force and the joule for energy. Established in 1960, the SI system aims to facilitate clear communication and reduce confusion in measurements across different fields and countries, promoting international collaboration.
