International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is observed annually on November 25. This day aims to raise awareness about the global issue of violence against women and girls, which affects millions worldwide. It encourages governments, organizations, and individuals to take action to prevent and eliminate such violence.
Established by the United Nations in 1999, this day also honors the memory of the Mirabal Sisters, who were assassinated in 1960 for their opposition to the dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Events and campaigns are held globally to promote gender equality and support survivors of violence.
