International Dark-Sky Association
The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the night skies for present and future generations. Founded in 1988, the IDA works to combat light pollution, which can disrupt ecosystems, harm wildlife, and diminish our ability to enjoy the stars. The organization promotes responsible outdoor lighting practices and advocates for policies that reduce excessive artificial light.
The IDA also designates areas as Dark Sky Places, which are locations recognized for their exceptional night sky quality. These areas serve as models for effective light management and provide opportunities for education and tourism. By raising awareness about the importance of dark skies, the IDA aims to foster a greater appreciation for the natural night environment.
