International Council on Monuments and Sites
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is a global organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of cultural heritage sites. Founded in 1965, it works to promote the understanding and preservation of monuments, sites, and landscapes of historical significance. ICOMOS collaborates with various stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organizations, and local communities, to ensure that cultural heritage is safeguarded for future generations.
ICOMOS is also associated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), particularly in the context of the World Heritage Convention. The organization provides expert advice on the nomination of sites for the World Heritage List and supports the implementation of conservation practices worldwide.
