International Boundary and Water Commission
The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) is a bi-national organization established in 1889 between the United States and Mexico. Its primary role is to manage and resolve issues related to the shared boundary and water resources, particularly the rivers that flow between the two countries, such as the Rio Grande and Colorado River.
The IBWC ensures compliance with treaties and agreements regarding water allocation, flood control, and environmental protection. It also addresses disputes that may arise over water usage and quality, promoting cooperation and sustainable management of these vital resources for both nations.
