Inning
An "inning" is a segment of a baseball or softball game during which one team bats while the other team plays defense. Each inning consists of two halves: the top half, where the visiting team bats, and the bottom half, where the home team bats. The goal is to score runs by hitting the ball and running around a series of bases.
In a standard game, there are nine innings, but in some formats, such as youth leagues or recreational play, there may be fewer. The team with the most runs at the end of the innings wins the game. If the score is tied, extra innings may be played to determine a winner.
