Inhibins
Inhibins are a group of hormones produced primarily in the gonads, specifically in the ovaries and testes. They play a crucial role in regulating the reproductive system by inhibiting the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. This helps maintain the balance of hormone levels necessary for proper reproductive function.
There are two main types of inhibins: inhibin A and inhibin B. Inhibin A is mainly produced in the ovaries during the second half of the menstrual cycle, while inhibin B is produced in both the ovaries and testes. Monitoring inhibin levels can provide valuable insights into fertility and reproductive health.
