Inhibin
Inhibin is a hormone produced primarily by the gonads, which are the ovaries in females and the testes in males. Its main function is to regulate the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. By inhibiting FSH secretion, inhibin plays a crucial role in controlling reproductive processes and maintaining hormonal balance.
Inhibin exists in two forms: inhibin A and inhibin B. In females, inhibin A is mainly produced during the later stages of the menstrual cycle and during pregnancy, while inhibin B is more active in the early follicular phase. In males, inhibin B is produced by the Sertoli cells and helps regulate sperm production.
