Indigenous Peoples of Borneo
The Indigenous Peoples of Borneo are the original inhabitants of the island, which is divided among three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. They belong to various ethnic groups, including the Dayak, Iban, and Bajau, each with distinct languages, cultures, and traditions. These communities often rely on agriculture, fishing, and hunting for their livelihoods, maintaining a deep connection to the rainforest.
Many Indigenous groups in Borneo practice traditional beliefs and rituals, often centered around nature and ancestral spirits. Their rich cultural heritage includes unique art forms, music, and dance, which are integral to their identity. However, they face challenges such as deforestation and land rights issues, threatening their way of life.
