Indigenous Australian languages
Indigenous Australian languages are the various languages spoken by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia. There are over 250 distinct languages, each with its own dialects, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of these communities. Many of these languages are tied to specific regions and traditional practices.
These languages are considered vital for preserving cultural heritage and identity. Unfortunately, many Indigenous Australian languages are endangered due to historical factors such as colonization and the dominance of English. Efforts are being made to revitalize and maintain these languages through education and community programs.
