Indian Ocean Commission
The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) is an intergovernmental organization established in 1982 to promote regional cooperation among its member states. The commission includes five member countries: Comoros, France (via its overseas territories), Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles. Its primary focus is on sustainable development, environmental protection, and economic integration in the Indian Ocean region.
The IOC works on various initiatives, including fisheries management, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction. By fostering collaboration among its members, the commission aims to enhance the socio-economic conditions of the region and address common challenges faced by the island nations in the Indian Ocean.
