Indeterminism
Indeterminism is the philosophical concept that not all events are determined by preceding causes. In contrast to determinism, which suggests that every event is the result of prior conditions and laws of nature, indeterminism allows for randomness and unpredictability in the universe. This idea is often discussed in relation to quantum mechanics, where certain events, such as the behavior of subatomic particles, appear to occur without a definite cause.
In everyday life, indeterminism can be observed in situations where outcomes are influenced by chance, such as in gambling or lottery games. The notion challenges the idea of absolute predictability, suggesting that free will and chance play significant roles in shaping events.
