In-Flight Refueling
In-flight refueling is a process that allows military and some civilian aircraft to refuel while in the air. This technique extends the range and endurance of the aircraft, enabling them to fly longer missions without needing to land for fuel. It typically involves a tanker aircraft equipped with special equipment to transfer fuel to another aircraft.
The refueling is done using a hose and drogue system or a boom system. In the hose and drogue method, a flexible hose with a funnel is deployed from the tanker, while the receiving aircraft connects to it. The boom system uses a rigid arm to transfer fuel directly into the receiving aircraft's tank.
