Imrali Island
Imrali Island is a small island located in the Sea of Marmara, near the coast of Turkey. It covers an area of about 9 square kilometers and is known for its natural beauty, featuring steep cliffs and lush vegetation. The island is uninhabited, except for a small number of officials and guards.
The island is most famous for being the location of the Imrali Prison, where the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has been held since 1999. Due to its prison facilities, access to the island is restricted, and it has become a symbol of political issues in Turkey.
