Impetigo
Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that primarily affects young children but can occur in people of all ages. It is caused by bacteria, usually Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes, and is characterized by red sores or blisters that can ooze and form a yellowish crust. The infection often appears on the face, especially around the nose and mouth, but can also occur on other parts of the body.
Transmission of impetigo can happen through direct contact with an infected person or by touching contaminated surfaces. Good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing and avoiding sharing personal items, can help prevent its spread. Treatment typically involves topical or oral antibiotics to clear the infection and reduce symptoms.
