Imperial War Graves Commission
The Imperial War Graves Commission (IWGC), now known as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), was established in 1917 to honor and commemorate the soldiers who died during the First World War. Its primary mission is to ensure that all war graves are maintained and that the names of the fallen are recorded, providing a dignified resting place for those who served.
The CWGC manages over 1.7 million graves and memorials across more than 150 countries. It also oversees the design and maintenance of cemeteries and memorials, ensuring that the sacrifices of individuals like those in the British Army and other Commonwealth forces are never forgotten.
