Illinois Prairie Path
The Illinois Prairie Path is a 61-mile-long multi-use trail located in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. It was the first successful rail-to-trail conversion in the United States, transforming an abandoned railway line into a recreational path for walking, biking, and jogging. The trail connects several communities, including Wheaton, Elmhurst, and Aurora.
Established in 1963, the Illinois Prairie Path features scenic views of prairies, wetlands, and woodlands. It is divided into three main segments: the Western, Central, and Eastern branches. The path is popular among outdoor enthusiasts and promotes healthy lifestyles while preserving natural habitats.
