Iliac Vein
The iliac vein is a major blood vessel located in the pelvis. It is responsible for draining deoxygenated blood from the lower limbs and pelvic region back to the heart. The iliac vein is formed by the merging of the femoral vein and the popliteal vein, and it eventually joins the inferior vena cava, which carries blood to the heart.
There are two main iliac veins: the right iliac vein and the left iliac vein. Each vein runs alongside its corresponding iliac artery. Proper functioning of the iliac vein is crucial for maintaining healthy blood circulation in the lower body and preventing conditions such as deep vein thrombosis.
